The OpenDoc Essentials Kit (the “Essentials Kit”) is a collection of software components designed to:
• give you a taste of OpenDoc, new software you’ll be seeing from Mac OS developers in the upcoming months
• provide added functionality that you can incorporate in your OpenDoc documents.
What does the Essentials Kit install?
Installing the Essentials Kit adds the following software to your PowerPC computer (note that you can install the Essentials Kit on PowerPC computers only):
• Apple Draw—is a container part that you can drag other parts into. You can also drag Apple Draw into another OpenDoc-aware application to add drawing functionality to that document.
• Apple 3DMF Viewer—lets you interact with shapes created with Apple’s QuickDraw 3D technology.
• Apple Audio—lets you record sounds into your OpenDoc documents. You can also play the sounds you record, and many other sound files in a variety of formats.
• Apple Button—lets you add a button to your OpenDoc document that can play a sound, launch an AppleScript or take you to a URL.
• Apple Image Viewer—lets you view pictures saved as GIF, TIFF, JPEG, and PICT files.
The following part will be available soon:
• Apple QuickTime Viewer—lets you play QuickTime movies and interact with QuickTime VR scenes.
Where can I get help?
To get help while you are working with the Essentials Kit, look in the Guide menu (?) for step-by-step instructions. Choose the menu item that is the name of your document, followed by “Guide” (such as Apple Draw 1.0.1 Guide). You’ll get instructions for the container part, plus any parts you have added to your document.
